Writing begins on Season 17

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

    It's real, folks! It's official, as per Charlie Day last week and Rob McElhenney on Saturday, the writers room for Season 17 of Sunny begins today (probably in a few hours, though, considering it's crazy early on the West Coast at the moment). 

It's always a crapshoot how much they're going to choose to share (and how much we can mine) from production, and without The Always Sunny Podcast it's a worry we won't hear much at all from the writer's room, but for whatever we do get, however minuscule, I will be making sure all of that information is documented here on this blog. 

While it may seem early, everything will move pretty fast now. The first two weeks or so the Writers' Room will come together to "Blue Sky," which is basically like brainstorming ideas, until they settle on enough plot and character motivations to confidently create a great batch of episodes (and maybe pulling ideas left on the board from 16, who knows). They'll assign writers to each idea and do rough outlines for each episode, which are discussed and revised, then scripts are drafted, given notes and further revisions, before they're made into Production Drafts for shooting (and then often given further revisions up until shooting). 

It seems the plan (as of two months ago) was that shooting would start some time in October, so the writing process will probably move faster than it did for Season 16 (which spanned mid-Oct to early-Feb, but was broken up by the December holidays), and hopefully we're kept up-to-date as they go! 

Make sure to keep an eye on the Season 17 Updates tab to see where we are in production and for the latest updates. For anything bigger than the mere mention of dates, you'll most likely see a full post on the blog about it. Once we start getting a chunk of information (normally not until we get into filming) you'll see an overhaul of that page to keep track of all the information we have for Season 17, by each episode, up until airing.
